The official video game sales data for the month of November is in courtesy of NPD Group and we have some great news for 360 and Wii fans, not so great for PS3 fans...
Rather than comment on what happened, we'll just provide you with the cold hard facts according to the NPD data:
- Sony missed its targets for the PS3 launch big time, and the Nintendo Wii outsold the console by more than 2:1.The Sony PS3 sold a paltry 197,000 units in November. The Nintendo Wii sold 476,000 units.
- Sony have still reiterated their goal of 1 million PS3's in each of Japan and the United States by years end, and to have 6 million PS3's shipped totally by 31 March 2007.
- Microsoft sold 511,000 Xbox 360 units during November, and say they are on target to exceed their goal of 10 million Xbox 360's sold by the end of the year.
- Gears of War was the top selling video game for November, with 1 million units sold.
- More copies of the Xbox 360 launch title Call of Duty 2 were sold in November 2005 (the US Xbox 360 launch month), than Sony's entire portfolio of PS3 games sold in November 2006.
The PS2 was still the most popular console machine overall however, beating the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii with 664,000 units shipped in November.
