Thanks to the fact that the Playstation 3 will not be available until spring, the new Nintendo console will lead the sales of consoles becoming the best-seller of the Christmas season.
Nintendo 'Wii' console
Hundreds turned out last week to get their hands on the first of the Nintendo 'Wii' consoles on sale in the UK at a midnight opening of HMV on London's Oxford Street.
Now, 12 hours later it's been reported that as many as 50,000 of the consoles have been sold - showing that gaming fans have bought into the new controller that Nintendo believes will revolutionise gaming.
They believe that the new gadget will ensure females and families will become more involved in the gaming world, as the old style of pressing buttons gets exchanged for simply waving the controller.
The "Wii" went on sale at 179 pounds but there are already numerous units on sale on e-bay for up to 400 UK pounds.
It's believed that all 400,000 units released for the Japanese market have already been sold out, and that the total amount around the world already tops the one million mark.
The Wii was launched all over Europe today but figures for the entirety of the continent will not be available until early next week.
